For 2026, NSFAS caps off-campus accommodation allowances at R4,500/month in major cities (Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban) and R3,500/month in other areas. Students must submit a signed lease agreement to their institution's financial aid office. If your rent exceeds the cap, you are responsible for the difference. NSFAS-accredited residences may have different arrangements — check with your institution.
